Biography
Andreas Wetås Jara is a Norwegian-Chilean cellist. He is a former student of Kari K. Miller and Anders Moberg, Lars-Inge Bjärlestam, and is currently studying with the Finnish cellist Ilmari Hopkins and Liv Opdal. He is also receiving guidance from the Spanish cellist Asier Polo. Andreas has participated in talent programs such as Young Talents of Bjergsted (UtB), Stavanger Symphony Orchestra – Morgendagens Helter (Equinor), and most recently as a part of the course The Thinking Musician Lim. edition lead and founded by Mark Messenger.
Andreas has performed at festivals such as The International Chamber Music Festival (ICMF) in Stavanger (NO), Glafsfjorden Festival (SE), K&M Festival (NO) and at The International Festival of Villa Faraldi (IT). He has toured as a part of TTM Soloists in Concert (IT) and as a part of the bossanova quartet The Ipanema Ensemble, and performed as soloist with orchestras such as Jæren Symphony Orchestra, Sandnes Ung Symfoni and ensembles from Vågen Vgs and Ingesund School of Music. Norway Summit , the final ceremony of Altibox Norway Chess and Statoil (Equinor) Future Energy Forum Concert .
In 2021 he received a scholarship from the Solo Foundation, where he in 2022 became a jury member. Andreas has also received scholarships from Tom Wilhelmsen Foundation, Sparebank 1 Sr-bank, Drømmestipendet Norsk Tipping, Barkved endowment fund, Gurli Springer-Nissvandt endowment fund, Municipality of Arvika and Municipality of Sandnes. He has had masterclasses with cellists such as Frans Helmerson, Torleif Thedéen, Gustav Rivinius and Troels Svane.
He has collaborated with the composer Dr. Timothy Miller, premiering his work for cello and organ; Flower Pieces.
